The PEL-2000A series power sinks
The PEL-2004 and PEL-2002 are multi-channel, programmable electronic DC loads with a modular design. The PEL-2000 series is designed to meet the ongoing shift towards high-speed operation in today's semiconductor market. As the power supplies, DC-DC converters and batteries that drive semiconductor circuits follow this trend, power supply design, quality testing and characteristic certification using high-speed loads have become necessary. The PEL-2000 series includes two types of mainframes and 4 types of load modules to flexibly meet users' requirements. Any load module combination can be used with a mainframe to customise a test system based on the number of channels and the maximum load power, voltage and amperage of each channel. Multiple loads can be connected in parallel to provide a higher power load for testing higher power outputs. This flexibility significantly reduces the investment required for future projects with different power requirements. The PEL-2004 is a mainframe with four slots and a main control unit for four load modules, whereas the PEL-2002 is a mainframe with two slots and a main control unit for two load modules. When the PEL-2004 is configured with 4 load modules of 350 W each, the PEL-2000 series can accommodate up to 1.4 kVA of power.
For higher load capacities, the mainframes can be connected in parallel using standard 20-pin MIL connectors. A maximum of 5 mainframes, including a master and 4 slaves, can be daisy-chained together to achieve a total load capacity of 7kW for high current and high power applications. With 4 dual-channel load modules, the PEL-2004 can handle 8 power supply outputs simultaneously. The sequence function allows each channel to change its load sink according to a predefined sequence at a rate of up to 100 s per step. Each sequence can run simultaneously under the control of a clock. This is one of the most powerful features of the PEL-2000 series, as it is able to realistically simulate a power supply load with multiple outputs. In dynamic mode, the load current or load resistance pulses between two preset values at a predefined rate of up to 25 s per step. This is often used as a standard test method to check the response of a power supply to rapid load changes. Most notably, multiple load channels can be connected in parallel to perform dynamic tests synchronously with a single clock. This Parallel Dynamic functionality provides the flexibility to perform dynamic tests for a high power power supply without the need for another high power load.
